The South Carolina Department of Mobile Vehicles (SCDMV) acquired a mobile DMV unit from Nomad in 2015. The Nomad-built Community Area Response and Emergency Services Vehicle (CARES) is an ADA-compliant mobile field office. Its primary purpose is disaster response and provides a quick and convenient way for customers to get replacement drivers’ licenses, identification cards, or vehicle title/registration.
In November, 2016, the unit was deployed in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew to help victims replace licenses and other vehicle-related documents. The CARES unit also provides services including the written portion of a driver’s test and eye test which is particularly helpful for residents in communities where it is difficult to get to a traditional DMV office.
