“Big dreams need room to breathe.” When we wrote about the opening of our Libby, Montana plant in the spring of 2023, it took a special kind of vision to imagine the then-empty 100,000 square-foot facility in full operation. Luckily, Nomad is full of just those kinds of visionaries, and as we close out 2024, Libby production is in full swing.
My, how we’ve grown!
Since production came online in Libby, Nomad’s manufacturing capacity has grown by leaps and bounds. The facility primarily turns out two types of Connected Mobile Operations Center (CMOC) builds: van and containerized solutions. Expansive manufacturing and integration areas mean orders of multiple CMOCs can be tackled with speed and efficiency.
A noteworthy van project underway is the Mobile Prosthetic and Orthotic Care (MoPOC) program, a fleet that will enable the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to deliver care to disabled veterans in the field. Nomad’s skilled Libby technicians are transforming bare van enclosures into mobile laboratories, complete with generator power for self-sufficiency. As of November, 2024, eighteen of these MoPOC vans are set to be produced.

The Libby team of fabricators and production pros are also busy building and equipping custom ISO-compatible containerized solutions for a Department of Defense (DoD) customer. Finding that standard steel shipping containers aren’t up to the task of the demanding DoD requirement, Nomad is engineering and manufacturing these purpose-built platforms from the ground up.

Capabilities
The Libby plant is continuously adding specialized equipment to meet project demands. Precision manufacturing in the facility begins with quality raw materials, which are transformed into engineered superstructures and assembly parts. The first stop is computer-controlled metal prep and forming, after which the materials move to fabrication and assembly. Welding is an art form, on full display at the hands of Montana’s most skilled technicians. After assembly and integration, projects move to paint and coatings, enabled by an all-new, high-tech booth that accommodates CMOCs big and small.
It’s Our People
At the end of the day, the success of any operation lies in the strength of its people. Northwest Montana is full of hard-working, talented individuals, and Nomad is honored that so many of them choose to be part of our team. Over 60 folks are now on board in the Libby plant, with expectations to add more continually. Exciting times ahead.
